This a dark red inky colored wine. Red fruits and sweet herbs mixed with a mineral note start off followed with spicy fruits, blueberry, dried raspberries, and some cocoa. The palate starts off with a mix of dried cherry, oak and dark chocolate. The oak tannins combine with the fruit, the layers complete a rich complexity that evolves as the wine aerates. The finish is long with silky smooth tannins.
2018 was another magical year here in Washington. We had lots of sunshine throughout the summer helping our grapes develop intense flavors. It was a warm vintage, but things cooled off at just the right time. Winter was mellow but snowpack was average, so we were ready for spring. A few rains helped early season growth and things were looking great as we headed into the summer. The summer was warm with lots of long sunny days. There were some wildfires up in Canada that blew smoke into our area in mid-summer. Then smoke from fires throughout the Pacific Northwest continued to crisscross across our area, luckily, we did not see any smokey impacts at our vineyard. In the end the smoke helped mitigate what would have been some very hot days, kind of helping us out in a way. The red wines from this vintage are
