Tasting notes

Big, bold, dried herbs, dark red fruit, some baked blueberry pie notes. The flavors are juicy and rich. The tannins are noticeable on the finish but not overpowering.

Petit Verdot fell out of favor in France because it is a late ripening varietal. It needs long hot summers to ripen. There is a lot more vintage variation in France but out here in WA we are consistently dry and hot so the varietal can do very well. It is a finicky grape that needs a little extra attention. I love using small portions of this varietal in blends, it adds color, tannin and structure. It does not take much to make an impact. 2017 was a good vintage for Petit Verdot, not quite as warm as the past vintages but the grapes had plenty of hang time and developed the flavor we were looking for. We only made 2 barrels of this blend so if you enjoy PV better grab it while its around. It is drinking surprisingly well right now but will be even better in a few years. Drink 2021-2031
