A dark red oak aroma mixes with spicy fruits, blueberry, dried raspberries, and some sweet vanilla. The flavors are bold and spicy. The palate starts off with a mix of oak and fruit. The oak tannins combine with the fruit for a full rich flavor. A nice mid palate leads to a finish with silky smooth tannins. Big bright fruit has this drinking beautifully now, but it will continue to evolve and expand over the next several years.

I’m loving the way this wine is tasting right now. It is showing great fruit and is very rich and full. The oak is showing strong but even with a little air the balance of fruit and oak starts to come together. The Syrah plantings continue to evolve out in the vineyard. We did a recent vertical tasting of our Syrah’s, and the newer wines are showing more complexity and fruit. The barrel program continues to be a combination of new oak and used. I like the tighter grained French oak and am thinking of starting to bottle a little earlier to try and preserve more of fruit. This vintage should age well for 7-10 years.
