Best of Class multiple times,
2019 Savor NW, 2019 USA Ratings (94pts), 2019 Sommelier Challenge, Sunset Magazine.
Dark ruby red color. The flavors hit with a punch, blackberry and blueberry pie, toasted almonds, oak and chocalate flavors.
This Merlot is stellar. Nice dark ruby red color. Some cherry notes on the nose combined with spice and barrel toast. The entry is lightly fruity with nice tannin structure. A great example of Washington Merlot. It is a smooth drinking wine with good length. Will pair nicely with food.
Coyote Canyon Vineyard
2016 was a warm vintage in Washington State which resulted in an early harvest overall. In the spring, we had lots of wet weather that helped with the early season growth. The sun was out and shining through Summer, but temperatures never got over 100 degrees. There was some smoke in the air but instead of causing problems it helped mitigate some of the heat. Because the season was very warm without extreme highs the grapes ripened without being stressed. We picked this Merlot right on schedule and we are so pleased with the intensity of flavor and smoothness it showcases
After working with the Coyote Canyon Merlot for the past 5 years it is nice to showcase this varietal on its own. It has always made a nice blender, adding some mid-palate notes and complexity to other wines. I have always enjoyed tasting the different barrels and am happy we have added this as a varietal. It was handpicked and then destemmed at the winery. The brix came in at 25, the pH was 3.91 and the TA at 3g/l. I ended up adding some acid to balance the big fruit flavors. After fermentation the wine was aged in a combination of French and American Oak. This should age nicely for 7-10 years.
